Moves Like Jagger

What helped me get through the last couple of years?  Even having happy times and building great memories in the midst of sludging through this slow, hurtful and ugly divorce process?

Of course there are many things, but I was really missing one today working out by myself at home...Zumba!

A few years ago my local YMCA turned into a Zumba haven.  The parking lot flooded every time there was a class.  I would staunchly keep running on the old treadmill and lifting weights and taking yoga and swimming, and, and... then I took a Zumba class.  I laughed the entire way through.  Not only because I definitely do not have moves like Jagger, but because everyone was happy and laughing too.

I don't know if that is normal, but it was for my class.  I went 2-3 times a week and got to know many many friends.  Our common denominator was that we loved to dance.  What better way to stay in shape?  Hang out with your good friends, laugh a lot and get skinny...oh and improve your moves, too.  We also decided to hang out other places like the bowling alley, the local dance club and sometimes just drank wine at each other's houses.  But it always came down to that 9:45 am class, a quick chat before shaking our tails off.  It was fun, worked me hard and gave me a comforting environment to hang in for an entire hour.

Now that I work, I no longer attend that class.  I miss it dearly, for the fun fitness time, for time away from my issues, but mostly for the wonderful people.  My instructor and I recently wrote each other, and she commented "I wanted to teach Zumba, if only to touch one other person's life."  Job well done, life touched. Life changed. xoxo.
